For the second time this season, No. 16 Michigan State and Illinois will face off on the hardwood on Saturday at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

The Spartans enter Saturday’s matchup against Illinois ranked 11th in the country with a 19-5 record and a 10-3 record in Big Ten play. Michigan State is coming off a loss, however, a surprising 71-67 defeat to Indiana. Guard Jaden Atkins had 14 points and three rebounds in the defeat for the Spartans while his backcourt mate Jase Richardson had 13 points and six rebounds of his own.
That was the Spartans’ third defeat in their last four games, so Michigan State will be desperate to get back in the win column on Saturday against Illinois.

The Illini, meanwhile, boast a 17-8 record heading into Saturday’s game against Michigan State with a 9-6 record in Big Ten play. However, Illinois has won its last two games, including most recently defeating a good UCLA team 83-78 behind 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists from a future Top 10 NBA draft pick, 18-year-old phenom Kasparas Jakučionis, so the Illini are in better form at the moment than the Spartans, setting up for an interesting matchup on Saturday night.
These two teams last faced off on Jan. 19, a nailbiter victory for the Spartans by a final score of 80-78. Tre Holloman led the way for Michigan State in the victory with 17 points in 23 minutes.
After such an exciting first matchup between these two teams, college basketball fans won’t want to miss the rematch between Michigan State and Illinois on Saturday night.
