COLUMBIA, SC, September 19, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Douglas M. Danner has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Danner has built a prominent career as an actuary at Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, where he has served since 1996. In his role at the health insurance giant, he conducts month-end reporting to assess the performance of small group insurance plans and manages specific clients up for monthly renewals. His tenure is marked by his involvement in significant projects, most notably his role in actuarial testing of mainframe computer software during the organization’s transition from the TOTL system to the CES system. Successfully navigating this complex and resource-intensive system change — which took place in 2011 and required extensive coordination and numerous meetings to monitor progress — stands as one of his most notable professional achievements.
Throughout his career, Mr. Danner has demonstrated exceptional persistence and adaptability, particularly in preparing for and passing actuarial examinations. He takes pride in his tenacity, having learned to refine his study methods and adapt to the unique demands of each exam, which are shaped by distinct syllabi and committees responsible for question preparation and grading. His achievements and ongoing commitment to professional development saw him recognized as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2011, a milestone that coincided with his leadership during the aforementioned system transition. He is also a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, further underscoring his standing within the profession.
Mr. Danner’s academic foundation was established at the College of Charleston, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. After graduating, he faced an economic downturn in the early 1990s and considered several career paths, including teaching mathematics at the high school level or pursuing graduate studies. Although initially rejected from graduate school and ultimately deciding against teaching, he chose to pursue actuarial science — a decision that set him on a path toward long-term professional fulfillment. He successfully passed his first two actuarial exams in 1994 before securing employment at Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1996.
Also known for his dedication to faith and community service, Mr. Danner is a volunteer with Living Springs Lutheran Church in Columbia and maintains membership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He attributes much of his success to unwavering determination, tenacity and the steadfast love and support of his mother and father, all of which has significantly shaped both his personal journey and professional endeavors.
Outside of his career and civic activities, Mr. Danner enjoys seeing as much of the United States as he can through road trips and exploring popular tourist destinations. Determined to expand his professional efforts further, he plans to continue contributing to Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina before moving into an autism advocacy role in the coming years. His past achievements, dedication to his community and future goals alike reflect a longstanding legacy of resilience, continuous learning and meaningfully impacting others through all he does.
