1950 Chevrolet pick-up – Zehr Insurance Brokers Ltd.

I purchased my 1950 Chevrolet pickup in pieces from a friend who has a C13F collection. He was going to restore it but had too many projects.

I started by removing the front and rear axles then welded a Mustang front end and the power brake brackets in place. The Nova 308 rear axle and a 400 cu inch Chevrolet engine with a 350 turbo transmission were next. A new brake system and the rest of the chassis parts were installed.

The body assembly was started by fitting the cab and the front fenders and then installing the doors. My neighbor came over one day and asked how many times I was going to take it apart and put it back together again. I told him that if you see paint on it that will be the final time.

The body is original with the exception of the front box panel and the tailgate. My friend did the body and paint work. We stripped it down to the bare metal and primed and sanded until it was straight. It was a long process. I helped as much as I could but I just followed instructions. He painted it in pieces and it turned out great. The color is Chrysler Midnight Blue with a little extra metal flake.

Final assembly started by installing It’s a Snap harness, windshield wiper motor, AC unit, gauges, and radio. The doors were assembled and installed as well front fenders, hood, grill, and front bumper. Assembly of the box and rear fenders was next. I got some rough-cut Ash, planed and finished it. I also installed stainless steel strips. Instead of a rear bumper, I installed a roll pan.

The upholstery was done by a lady that many of my friends have had her do their vehicles; very pleased with her work. Because I am color blind she was a great help. It’s a great feeling when you fire it up for the first time and drive it out of…

There are a lot of people that helped me on this journey. My wife was the greatest help I had. She chose the color and was my second set of hands. It’s a great hobby!
